OLLI at BCC, in partnership with Berkshire SuperGenarians and Age Friendly Berkshires, is offer a series of free online programs on Changing the Culture of Aging: Healthcare. As of July 2020 nearly 800 health care organizations throughout the US have earned either level 1 (Participant) or level 2 (Committed to Care Excellence) recognition in the Age Friendly Health Systems movement. The Age Friendly Health Systems initiative is centered on an evidence-based framework known as the 4Ms which will be discussed in detail. Our presenters are:
Alice Bonner, PhD, who will speak about “Age Friendly Health Systems: Evidence Based Care for Older Adults—A History and Overview” From 2015-2019, she served as Secretary of the Executive Office of Elder Affairs for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She is the Senior Advisor for Aging at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Adjunct Faculty and Director of Strategic Partnerships for the CAPABLE Program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. Alice has been a geriatric nurse practitioner for over 30 years.
Maura Brennan, M.D. will discuss “Age Friendly Health Systems: Progress to Date and Future Opportunities at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.” Dr. Brennan was instrumental in Bay State Health Systems receiving the first Age Friendly Health System designation in the country. She is a member of the Department of Medicine, Division of Geriatrics & Palliative Care at Baystate and has several leadership roles in geriatrics with Baystate Medical Center. She is also Professor of Medicine at The University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate.
